AI Learn

Norway · Duration: 5 years (2025–2030)
Directed by Barbara Wasson (University of Bergen) and Michalis Giannakos (NTNU)

AI LEARN is one of six national AI centres in Norway, and the only one with a specific focus on the human role in interaction with artificial intelligence — from primary school to advanced research. The centre investigates how people and AI can learn, solve problems, create and lead together (hybrid intelligence), with the aim of generating knowledge and technology that make AI a trustworthy and responsible tool for learning, work and democratic participation.

The research is organised into five clusters:

  • Hybrid Intelligence — how people and AI can learn, solve problems and make decisions together.
  • Technological Advancements — new technologies for AI-based learning systems.
  • Governance, Ethics & Regulations — responsible governance and regulation of AI in learning.
  • Capacity Building for Empowerment — the skills needed to use AI with confidence.
  • Maximising Impact — turning research into practice.
